We don't even get to see the bear fight, just him riding in all mess up from it. Author probably knew we'd cheer for the bear. He kept thinking, "I don't want her to feel too uncomfortable" with "Having her as my indentured servant is great because then I can get sex from her".
But now I'm thinking about the 1993 pub date and think this is probably the crossover from bodice ripper hero's rape/nonconsensual to a more modern hero who doesn't physically force.
I mean, yes, it's a hallmark of the early 90s; gog forbid she has any actual sexual agency.--she's only having orgasms because she has no choice. Otherwise she'd be a slut and we can't have that.
