I'm just going to say what I did on Bluesky:
The St. Paul rally went forth because our AG Ellison said he was still showing up.
Other rallies closer to Brooklyn Park and Champlin were canceled.
The way some of you almost, gleefully, repost information that has yet to be confirmed, fix your hearts too. Personal bias and acceleration thirst helps no one.
I don't want any of that along with thoughts or prayers. I will take your courage and body out in your own communities doing the work.
Today, I'm not getting out of my jammies, decompressing, grieving, uplifting with all the pictures and videos posted from yesterday, and only accepting to add a few things to a schedule I previously cleared for the week.
Do the work, take the rest, get back to it
Love and solidarity
I am sorry; I did not know about Speaker Hortman's life and record until after her death, but all I've learned since confirms that she was an extraordinary person, a dedicated civil servant who worked tirelessly for her community.
ReplyDeleteHer murder and that of her husband would have been a horrible tragedy on its own (their poor children!); the fact that it was a political assassination and part of a larger planned attack on elected Democrats and other progressive people only adds to the horror of our current political situation.
At least (reported by CBS and others), the suspect has been arrested, for whatever closure that may provide the family.
Him finally getting apprehended gave MN the exhale it needed. I think every state has these civil servants that mean extra something to their state and it is a dark day when they're specifically targeted for that very reason.

DeleteI don't know if you saw the statement from Sophie and Colin Hortman, but that last line:
Delete"The best way to honor our parents' memory is to do something, whether big or small, to make our community just a little better for someone else."
What a legacy for parents to leave, children capable of such generosity and spirit of public service, at a moment of such grief and horror.
I did see that and was so impressed and awed at their message in such a time of grief.
DeleteI am sorry for you loss and for the state of MN. Like Az, I didn't know anything about Speaker Hortman, sounds like she was one of the good ones.
ReplyDeleteThank you and at least from my point of view definitely someone that I felt stood and fought for the betterment of all.
