Community

Build it, strengthen it, find solace with it, laugh with it, love with it, be quiet with it, be loud with it, and when you can, raise hell with it.

I deleted my Threads account and will more than likely delete my Twitter. I'm trying to find a way to delete my fb but I've got to find a way to get local information from alternate sources.

I'm thinking about joining Bluesky, for Twitter like info, but feels like just repeating the Twitter pattern, I don't know

It's never a bad idea to think about the quiet part of community and surveillance for you the individual and those vulnerable you might be helping.

This blog is going to be part of my laugh and love with it and I'm going to work hard to keep carving time out for it.

  1. Bluesky feels a lot like twitter in appearance but lacks the algorithm and some of the functionalities; I resisted it for a long time, but so many of the people I joined twitter for are there now, I gave in.

I'm still active on mastodon, and will likely remain there as long as the instance exists.

Meanwhile, I'll keep blogging--it's been a HARD few weeks, and the past couple of days have been...almost impossible. But I'll be fucked if I allow the fascists to take away all my joy, and all my people.

    2. Willa, the biggest hug to you and yours. If you ever need anything, I'm always here

  2. The wide varied access of information is what I want if I delete Twitter, I've had friends tell me it's small but growing, so I'll probably give it a try

I'll always be on Mastodon too and I'm still trying to build up Bookwyrm to be a future replacement for GRs some day, because getting away from Amazon is a long term goal. I tried StoryGraph but it's not social in the way I want, it's too standardized test for me.
I'm just trying to really streamline my social media as I imagine I'm going to be even busier now and I also try to think/plan what are some possible outcomes in 10yrs (8yrs ago I deleted a period tracker, never been so happy to have made that decision)

Finding, creating, and experiencing joy is something I hope everyone can and does hold tight to right now and for future. This blog and blogs like your is one of my little spaces to. I also have subscribed to Smart Bitches Trashy Books After Dark, another step to try and get away from GRs.

  3. I shut down Twitter in February and I am here to tell you that my life is so much better without it. 10 out of 10, recommend.

    1. I don't think I've ever heard a person say theu regret it, lol. I've only been on there the last two years for news, don't even use it for social. Deleting it will force me to search out other options, definitely for better

  4. I still have my Twitter account for Sportsball info, but honestly I'm rarely there otherwise. I'm toying with the idea of deleting all my tweets but keeping the account active (well for as long as whatshisface let's it exist) just so nobody poaches my handle.

Right now I'm spending most of my time on Mastodon and BlueSky. I have a Threads account but it reminds me of all the worst parts of Facebook so....yeah. And I'm likely to stay tied to Facebook, mainly for family. Otherwise, meh.

    1. Where is the sports on BlueSky?! I just went ahead and deleted Twitter to cut the chord and am bummed at the lack hockey, baseball, anything over on Blue.

Threads was unhinged, lol. It started off goofball entertainment unhinged to me but then got exhausting unhinged. All the corporations with their "witty" replies also felt like a special brand of soulless.

I always start off excited at the possibilities of a new social media and then realize I'm just not great at keeping up with it. GRs and blogs seem to be all I really have the energy for in the book arena

    2. Not sure exactly how you seriously you meant the question, but giving the old earnest answer a try:

if you search "(sport) starter pack", there will be a bunch of lists (the starter packs) for different sports/teams/etc; some people follow everyone in a list, others scroll to find their people.

Also: when you type your query on the search bar, if it brings up an empty page, click enter again to populate with the results.

    3. Oh my God, the query double click finally showed me some! Thank you so much!

    4. There's plenty to like about Bluesky, but the "why is it showing me a blank page, I know I saw this--oh, it needs a second click to confirm that, yes, I am searching for that" thing is bullshit.
