Reading Update: Page 1

It's July 22nd and I'm just getting to my first Holidays in July!?

In my defense, I live in MN and when the weather is gorgeous, I've got to be outside when I can. But with next week hitting high 90s, time to cool off with a holiday book!

Kerry is leaving her family's Christmas Tree farm to help out her older brother in New York City. A country girl in the city, she's adapting quickly and loving the neighbors.

When an elderly neighbor goes missing, she has to help. And try to decide if her undeniable chemistry with Patrick, the hot single dad is worth taking a chance on.

Quick and tasty

  1. I noticed you hadn't been around (here and on mastodon), I'm glad to 'see' you back.

  2. I'm not the best at being on social media and summer time is pretty active for me. I think until today, I didn't read at all for like a week and a half. I can get streaky, but next week is 90s and above temps so my butt will be inside reading and I'm sure I'll have to blab about whatever lines I'm reading.

I have The Beast of Bestwick post from your blog bookmarked to comment on but I've been so busy I haven't even got to that 🥴
State Parks, exercising bug, tv show binging, family/friends visiting, and patio but I'm definitely not lost to bluesky or threads, lol.

    1. "not lost to bluesky or threads

Nah, I didn't think you would be; but you seem to have a fairly consistent blog presence, and that's what I noticed most. I'm sorry you are missing other kinds of activities to the heat, but glad to know you have plenty of 'cold' books to entertain you for the duration.

  3. 🤣 I feel like we've lost a few good ones, so had to state I wasn't a casualty.

    1. Sadly, yes; people seem to forget that threads is owned by the man behind facebook, Cambridge Analytica and countless atrocities, and that bluesky is owned by Jack Nazi-lover Dorsay. Ah well, it is what it is; the Saudis got their wish, the communities we nurtured on twitter are fractured, likely beyond repair.

  4. I forsee a big disappointment with Bluesky but sounds like influencer culture is probably going to love Threads. The activism hit is definitely the one that hurts most, I hope younger and new to the game get out in world and make those connections, going to be needed.

This is a long (and profane) post by Cat Valente about this that aligns pretty well with my take, which is: too many people who should know better are falling for this whole, "Zuckerberg is taking Elon down, ergo, Zuckerberg is a good guy", because we have for too long as a society lived under the delusion that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend"--and that's going to cost us dearly.

  5. I'm not even sure it gets to that thinking, feels more like Diamond Ring. Shiny item told is worth a lot, everyone has diamond ring, I must have diamond, no thought really to awfulness behind diamond cartels. I don't think most were leaving Twitter because Elon bad guy in their eyes, I think he destroyed it enough to make non-functioning for most
Consciously thinking about Zuckerberg as owner of Threads and thinking he's a better option would be goofy as hell
